Yet another disturbing incident

Haha, I got this from Chadin's blog

A 17-YEAR-OLD student of one of Singapore’s top junior colleges allegedly punched a bus driver in the face during a quarrel on Wednesday.
The 53-year-old SBS Transit driver tried to stop the Hwa Chong Institution student from leaving.
The teen’s girlfriend, who is from another school, had been found to be using an invalid concession card.
The bus driver, who suffered minor bruises on his face, was given two days medical leave. He has lodged a police report against the student, and the police said they are investigating.
SBS Transit said it is taking the matter seriously as the driver was assaulted in the course of his duty.

The original article can be found here http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,4136,130301,00.html

Interesting huh? Now read this http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,4136,130302,00.html

When contacted, Hwa Chong Institution said the school 'deeply regretted this unfortunate incident which resulted from a misunderstanding'.
They said they do not condone unbecoming behaviour.
The school said the student is a good student and well-behaved and is distressed by what happened.
.
.
.
He claimed that he did not know the lost card had been branded as void and stolen until the end of the entire commotion.
When his friend tapped the card against the card reader, the card reader beeped continuously. He claimed the bus driver had not given any explanation.
He wrote: 'The bus driver detained us and didn't allow us to proceed. He asked her to produce the card and took it without explanation.

Argh, my blogger interface is screwed, I can't even preview or edit html. P.S If you're reading this the second time, it is edited, blogger is normal now ;)

Anyway, I think that the whole thing wasn't an accident. That is what I think though, maybe I am wrong. I think this has nothing got to do with the school, in contrast to what Chadin has said, it is the character of the person. It is the upbringing of the person, many factors contibute to this.

Maybe our education system is partly responsible for this, but either way, I'm not shocked, but quite disturbing. I haven't witness any of these incident before, rather it is natural for kids in developed countries to evolve towards that direction.

Some may say that social egalitarianism is to be blamed. Kids are talking about human rights, but I think it's alright to do so, no problem, it is HUMAN RIGHTS. You see, even I'm talking about it.

So what do you guys think? Feel free to leave a comment by clicking below.

Organic Chemicals Discovered in Titan’s High Atmosphere

Since the twin Voyager spacecraft flew past Saturn’s moon Titan, Scientists have been excited about what its hazy atmosphere can tell us about the earliest days of our own planet. The Voyagers discovered that Titan’s atmosphere is swirling with hydrocarbons and other complex organic molecules that could be the building blocks of life. The latest findings from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft have uncovered these organic molecules floating higher in Titan’s atmosphere than scientists originally thought possible.

This latest research has been published in the May 11, 2007 edition of the Journal Science. It shows that these organic aerosols, called tholins, have been found in altitudes higher than 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) above the surface of Titan. And these molecules are formed differently than how scientists originally believed.

This inquiry is important because the Titan’s environment is thought to be very similar to the Earth’s early history, before the first life formed. A similar process could have happened here.

Living Under the Crescent Moon

Yes, I visited the National Museum of Singapore today, and many other historical sites with my father. I went to this exhibition named Under the Crescent Moon, here's the website http://www.nationalmuseum.sg/crescent_moon/. It is an interesting exhibition, if not I wouldn't be blogging about it, with lots of artefacts and some art installation.

The exposition aims to reveal more about the arab culture, the focus was on the domestic aspect. You get to see many pictures of their houses, old and new, you'll be impressed by their architecture characteristics, their intention to preserve their heritage of building style. The new generation of arab houses are like those square houses you see in movies(but nicer of course) with a garage beside. O.o

There was a also an installation art piece, where you get to climb onto a small bridge which cannot support more than 12 people. They play clips of war, wreck, destruction and violence. You may feel a-bit heavy hearted after seeing that. But I don't know, the perception of art varies from person to person.

It has further enforced my idea of religion differences between people are quite scary, and often lead to destructive actions. And not sorting out the differences properly may result in very grave misunderstanding, which makes people do meaningless but wretched things. Therefore I have this principle of not having any religion. It is the best way to live, I think.

The whole thing should not take you more than 2 hours.

The last thing is, you need not pay to go in. But you may need some money for parking. :)
Until 21 May 2007, 10am-6pm daily. Remember, its the National Museum of Sinagpore, not art museum or anything else.

indigence \IN-dih-juhn(t)s\, noun:
A state of extreme poverty or destitution.

My sentence: One of the purpose of humanity should be to eliminate indigence as far as possible.

You Are 46% Evil

You are evil, but you haven't yet mastered the dark side.

Fear not though - you are on your way to world domination.

You Should Learn French

C'est super! You appreciate the finer things in life... wine, art, cheese, love affairs.

You are definitely a Parisian at heart. You just need your tongue to catch up...

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

Have you ever wondered about our existence?
Have you ever wondered about our comprehension of things, why we even understand anything at all?
Our purpose of living? One's purpose of living?
Why homo sapiens becomes intelligent faster than other animals?

I'm sure, that some of us has given them some thought, but didn't go deep.
Some of us, just couldn't give a damn to think about it.
The rest like me, will donate a lot of our time, to prod about this.

Majority of the human race (90%) would baselessly point towards the existence of a supreme being. Because the mystery of our existence could not be explained scientifically.

I do not think that way. The theory of creation and the existence of a god isn't appealing to me, it doesn't even look logical to me. I've met people who tried to convince me in this, and I was, too, happy to listen. He presented a very strong argument, which is why the laws of physics are that way? Why is it that there is a law of physics, that every particle in the universe obeys? There must be someone to organise it. He then used a piece of paper to show me, "the words and letters are arranged properly, isn't it logical that somebody HAS arranged them?".

Well he has a point, but that surely can be explained in the future, has something got to do with the super-symmetry breaking down into the 4 forces.

Then I posed a question to him,
I asked, "If God created this world and everything, who created him?".
He answered, "God is just BE, he has been always there."
"If He just BE, why can't the universe just BE too? If God created us, someone must have created God, and that someone who created God must be created by another person, Right?"

He couldn't provide me with a reasonable answer. Currently science is also unable to provide us with a satisfactory answer.

When will we get the answer? Will we be enlightened about life itself after that? Can the meaning of life be written down in a mathematical equation? Will it make us better people after that?

Only time can tell, no?

You Are Pretty Logical

You're a bit of a wizard when it comes to logic

While you don't have perfect logic, you logic is pretty darn good

Keep at it - you've got a lot of natural talent in this area!

You Should Rule Mercury

Close to sun, Mercury has very long days - and is rarely visible to the rest of the solar system.

You are perfect to rule Mercury, because you live for the present - and can truly enjoy a day that goes on forever.

Like Mercury, you are quick and elusive. Your wit is outstanding, and you can win any verbal sparring match.

Some people see you as superficial, but in truth, you just play many roles and have many interests.

A great manipulator, you usually get what you want from people. And they're happy to give it to you.

XENOPHONTOS says:

i dun wan you to

XENOPHONTOS says:
but I have the log.

XENOPHONTOS says:
I was one of the participants.

... says:
then wats the use of asking me

XENOPHONTOS says:
I am trying to convince you that I have the right to publish it

... says:
.......

... says:
jian feng was right

XENOPHONTOS says:
so may I publish it?

and yy

XENOPHONTOS says:
I can take alternatives if you can prove it to me

... says:
no matter wat i am one of the participates too

XENOPHONTOS says:
correct.

XENOPHONTOS says:

omg

XENOPHONTOS says:
I think that you have misunderstood me

... says:
IT SHULD BE YOU WHO MISUNDERSTOOD ME

XENOPHONTOS says:
you aren't an AVK right

XENOPHONTOS says:
but I'm an AVK

... says:
IM A VAK

XENOPHONTOS says:
so mr smith said that it is not that people dun like each other

XENOPHONTOS says:
it is because they don't understand each other.

... says:
and i dun think you understood how your words will affect others

XENOPHONTOS says:
hmmm?

XENOPHONTOS says:
my words aren't penetrating.

... says:
you go think on your own words then

... says:
i didnt even wan to be penetrating

XENOPHONTOS says:
I didn't say that you are an asshole or something.

XENOPHONTOS says:
I think

XENOPHONTOS says:
we both should think about our own words ya?

XENOPHONTOS says:
our own words.

... says:
and yours too

XENOPHONTOS says:
I said OUR

XENOPHONTOS says:

XENOPHONTOS says:
maybe the both of you didn't understand me

XENOPHONTOS says:

yeah its both ways.

... says:
you can go on with your strange ways

XENOPHONTOS says:
it botoxes my face.

... says:

XENOPHONTOS says:
u got what I mean?

... says:
i really dun get it and i dun wan to get it

... says:
becoz you dunno wats layman's term

XENOPHONTOS says:
oh well

XENOPHONTOS says:
coz you dunno jargon

XENOPHONTOS says:
everybody knows layman

XENOPHONTOS says:
everybody is a layman

... says:
correct

... says:
so by using jargon you are totally confusing people

XENOPHONTOS says:
no

XENOPHONTOS says:
remember last year Mr Loh says usage of jargon is a way of persuasion?

... says:
in this conversation we dun nid it

... says:
and you are using it

XENOPHONTOS says:

but then you said that you don't want them to vote

XENOPHONTOS says:

your statements are a bit contradicting

........ says:

in what way

........ says:

i dun wan them to vote becoz i dun wan them to have the mindset that either of the both will perish ma

Book review: A briefer history of time

Yay, finished this book titled "A briefer history of time", some sort of 2nd version of "A brief history of time". I just got this mood to write a book review today, but actually I've read this kind of books like girls reading horny comics.

Here's the coverpage . This book is authored by Stephen Hawking<-- check out this guy> and co-author Leonard Mlodinow.

This book is a collection of generalised ideas of modern physics, which is ideal for non-geeks. You can find gists of quantum theory, general relativity, special relativity and so on. After the conclusion you can find Stephen Hawking's description of 3 prominent physicists namely Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei and Issac Newton.

There are quite some interesting facts about the 3 physicists. There was an anti-Einstein organisation, people threatened to kill him. Einstein said, "Equations are more important to me, because politics is for the present, but an equation is something for eternity."

Hawking expresses Issac Newton as "WAS NOT A PLEASANT man". His general social relations were awful with other scholars, resulting the later part of his life drowning in disputes. His biggest contributions are the theory of gravity and Principia Mathematica. There were other unknown facts that I didn't know.

They say that "A brief history of time" has sold for dunno how many million copies, about 1 book for every 5 people, man, woman, and child on earth. WOW.

For further reading, I recommend the following books Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku and his other books. You can read "A brief history of time" also if you wish to.

AND I WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE SUNSHINE!!! Jing Hao wants to watch it too!! Yay! It is SOOO appealing to me!!!
There was a young lady of Wight
Who traveled much faster than light.
She departed one day,
In a relative way,
And arrived on the previous night.

Nice limerick isn't it?

Ohho, today I got to know that I had won the I & E competition, the 2 questions one? Well, it was crap, I got the answer when I was looking at it after lunch during my pre-spec camp.

Guess what they gave me? Wasn't really bad, it was a $10? capitavoucher for use in capitaland shopping centres? Not bad though, to get such a prize for such a competition.
